It has an entire chapter that takes you through from worldgen to embark to having a semi-functional fortress, checklists suggesting other advantageous things to do, and a generally solid overview of every major aspect of the game. WebYou can sink your embark points on pre-made armor and weapons, though. Say, 1-2 guys start with a few ranks in armor user/dodger/weapons skill or some such, and equipment to match. The rest is 200 eggs in a single barrel (that many fit in one barrel that doesn't take long for a single dwarf to haul inside).
