Beginning at the car park, you will follow the marked footpath to Sweet Hill and then make your way onto Summiting Whernside Peak. You will then follow the stream as it makes its way to Dowber Gill and explores the rapids and waterfall.

Breaking with tradition I actually had a bit of a nosy of what this race entailed before I set off for it and discovered it involved running from a farmer's field in Kettlewell, straight up Great Whernside, then back down again. Whernside lies about two miles (three kilometres) northwest of Ribblehead Viaduct on the Settle–Carlisle Railway, and the mountain is commonly ascended from Ribblehead. There is a public footpath from Ribblehead that heads north via Smithy Hill and Grain Ings before turning west to Knoutberry Haw and then south to Whernside itself.
