WebDec 10, 2013 · I am wanting to share my experiment with traditional tanning a beaver tail to make soft items like wallet. 1) fleshed scraped and salted tail. 2) rinse salt off. 3) soak in KOH 12+ hour. Pieces of beaver tail will be small, under 1 square foot, and only suitable for smaller projects. Beaver tail is also expensive compared to its size, costing up to $300 per square foot, much more than many other types of leather.
